BIOGRAPHY

 

Received the 2001 Milton Richman "You Gotta' Have Heart" Award by the New York Chapter of the BBWAA...received the 2000 Thurman Munson Award for his baseball accomplishments and philanthropic work in New York...in the fall of 2000 initiated the Jorge Posada Foundation, part of the Giving Back Fund family of charities...proceeds will support families of children who suffer from craniosynostis, and to provide athletic programs for children in New York City and Puerto Rico...was signed by Leon Wurth...uncle, Leo Posada, is a minor-league hitting instructor for the Dodgers...father, Jorge Sr., is a scout for the Rockies...was a baseball All-Star in 1988-89 at Colegio Alejandrino High School...also participated in basketball, volleyball and track...in 1991, he received an Associate's degree from Calhoon Community College in Decatur, AL...at Calhoon, he was voted best hitter in 1990 and was a co-captain and all-conference selection in 1991...first name pronounced HOR-hay.
